Fail: Pinto Beans with Kale and Adobo Sauce

Posted under Fail

What I Did: Soaked, chopped, cooked, strained, cooled, blended, set aside, soaked, drained, pureed, chopped, cooked, simmered, and combined. All for a dinner that had to be eaten with generous helpings of feta and greek yogurt to be edible.

My Result:

What Went Wrong: This took me several hours to make, dirtied multiple pots, pans, utensils, and appliances, and really didn’t taste like anything special. Frankly it was pretty flat other than the adobo kick. I know I followed the recipe exactly (other than cutting back dramatically on the amount of adobo sauce I added in because I can’t imagine how my mouth would be on fire if I added the recommended amount), so I’m not sure what happened.

You cut back on the fluids, an essential part of the recipe and you’re surprised it came out poorly? I’m not sure what else to say besides avoid recipes where you fear the flavors might be too much for you.

Morgan, I think you misread. When the poster said, “other than cutting back dramatically on the amount of adobo sauce I added in because I can’t imagine how my mouth would be on fire if I added the recommended amount”, I think what she meant was that she used the amount of adobo sauce the recipe originally called for. If you click her pinterest link, you’ll see that the original recipe called for 5oz and the person who pinned it suggested using 2oz.
