What I Did: For Teacher Appreciation Week, my children’s school was doing a red carpet themed lunch for the teachers. I thought for sure that I’d be the coolest parent there by making some Emmy-shaped cookies that I found on Pinterest. They looked great going into the oven. But by time I took them out, they turned into ghostly blobs.
My Result:

Next Time I Will: Next time I would follow the recipe exactly! There is no saving these poor cookies, but my family still ate them and they didn’t taste as bad as they look.

Try freezing the cookie before baking.
6. July - 6:28 pmI have done this so many times I have lost track. My friend who is a cake baker, finally suggested putting the dough in the fridge/freezer before baking til it’s almost frozen to help me retain the shapes. Changed my life. LOL
7. July - 8:29 amWow, that went from the emmys to easter island awful quick. I am sure they could say the same thing about alcatraz at the awards ceremony.
21. July - 10:36 pmIf you let the butter get room temp at some point during the process, the cookies won’t keep their shape. Only use cold butter. Add it in last, don’t overbeat, and if you make multiple batches, you have to use a cool pan again.
28. August - 10:29 pmCheck out this tutorial. They punch out the cookie with the cutter after the cookie is baked and still hot. Try using this cookie dough from this tutorial and following the cookie cutter process used here: http://www.sheknows.com/food-and-recipes/articles/958083/cinco-de-mayo-pinata-cookies
5. September - 3:21 pmAlong with chilled dough, if you bake the cut-out cookies on parchment paper with the cookie sheet under that, the dough won’t spread.
23. September - 8:06 amMaybe try a different cookie recipe, like one that doesn’t spread out. This will mean crunchier cookies, but you might get the shape you want. The more butter you put into the batter, the more the cookies will spread.
