What I Did: I wanted to make an ombre cake for my friend’s baby shower. It was supposed to be two shares of blue and a lime green. I was using my favorite chocolate cake recipe from Completely Delicious blog. But I changed the frosting to white chocolate to accommodate the colors. However, I don’t think that was the problem! What happened was a huge, blue-green, sloppy mess! I thought making an ombre cake was about technique and I carefully watched the video from Sweetapolita’s blog post. Hmmm… guess not! Cake was still delicious though!

Darker colored icing from the bottom up?
If you’re doing it that way, a frosting spatula (long, flat spatula) works VERY well.
It works a lot better with a thicker, homemade buttercream frosting!
