What I Did: A friend posted this link and said she needed someone to make it so she could enjoy it. I saved the link and a few months later, when she came over for dinner, I decided to make it for her. First, the cake did not rise (it was only half an inch thick for each layer). Then, I decided to make more cake but was now out of red food coloring. Then, I made the icing which tasted great but never set up quite right. So- I assembled all the layers and put it in the fridge. When I opened the fridge, it had collapsed so I scooped out the pieces and assembled them in an “artsy” manner. Still tasted good.
Next Time I Will: This project can be saved with more rigorous cake trimming to get the layers super flat (maybe I shouldn’t have worried that the original cake layers were very flat and dense?) Perhaps more work on the frosting?
