What I Did: Any skilled baker knows that sugar melts at a high temperature. 350º for ten minutes in a preheated oven melted almost all the sugar with absolutely no glitter effect. Don’t bother wasting your time trying. In order to achieve this effect you must purchase edible glitter (not just non-toxic). Here is a link to a photo of how edible glitter comes when purchased. There are many sites on the internet where you can purchase edible glitter.

My Result:

pinterest fail edible glitter

Next Time I Will:  There is no way to achieve the metallic component simply with sugar and food coloring.

What I Did: Over the past year and a half, I’ve been working really hard to adopt a healthier lifestyle. However, this pesky sweet tooth of mine persists. So, I’m always on the lookout for healthy, simple, tasty snacks. I’ve had success with other healthy Pinterest snacks before so I was hopeful about this one. Plus, I already had all the materials on hand! Awesome. Well, that was the only win of this.

I followed the instructions exactly, and what resulted was a gooey, bitter chocolate, overly-sweetened banana mess! The flavors did not blend well and neither did the banana. It was definitely a fail. I managed to eat about two bites before tossing the banana/alkaline-flavored abomination and opting for an apple.

My Result:

pinterest fail chocolate banana mug cake pinterest fail chocolate banana mug cake

Next Time I Will: If I did make this again, I would use a banana that was less ripe. I think the ripeness caused it to be too sweet and too mushy for the recipe. I would also use less cocoa powder, a whole egg, and a little more sweetener.

What I Did: I wanted to make homemade mozzarella cheese bites, and found the easiest recipe on Pinterest. I followed the recipe exactly: cut the string cheese into pieces, dipped in milk and eggs, rolled in breadcrumbs, and placed into the oven. Easy peasy. Ha!

Fail: Bunny Rolls (Part 3)

[Editor's Note: I'm labeling this is a FailWin. They don't look like she expected, but I think they are adorable!]

What I Did: I followed the recipe – pretty much to the dot! Spent half a day making the pineapple filling and the dough (I found the recipe with the picture on a facebook post).. For some reason the dough ended up quite crumbly and I couldn’t shape the bunnies… Though trust me – I TRIED! Feeling all disappointed with my efforts I looked at the original picture – and concluded that the bunnies on the left looked like they were made in a mold, not sculpted by hand…

My Result:

Next Time I Will: In spite of looking rather ugly, they tasted quite good :)

Fail: White Chocolate Dipped Strawberry Carrots

What I Did: I’m visiting my boyfriend’s family this weekend for Easter and saw these on Pinterest. I thought they’d be super cute and easy to make. I’ve dipped things in regular chocolate before, no problem. White chocolate must be the same, right? WRONG. Attempt one: water boiled into chocolate, rookie mistake, my fault. Attempt two: the second I added food coloring the whole thing seized. FAIL.

My Result:

white chocolate easter strawberry carrots pinterest fail

Next Time I Will: According to my friend I needed to add some oil into the chocolate, as white chocolate seizes. I’m willing to give it a third try, but I’m not counting any eggs before they hatch!

What I Did: I chose it because it looked adorable!

However I have a few problems:
This was my first I’ve made cupcakes, icing and decorated them.

The icing got hard before I could put the sanding sugar on. So I had to skip that step.

Instead of using a 102 tip I used a 103 tip. The wings were hard to make (I don’t have any experience piping icing)

My Result:

Next Time I Will: The end result looks alright.

Next time I’ll dip them in the sugar like I’m supposed to.

Fail: Easter Cake Pops

Posted under Fail

Name: Pam B

Original Inspiration: http://pinterest.com/pin/84231455501959682/

What I Did: This project seemed like an easy Easter project for a Saturday afternoon. This is the second time I have tried cake pops with marginal results. Getting the little cakes covered in candy without them falling apart is difficult and one must possess lightening speed to get the decorations affixed before they set.

My Result:

pinterest fail chick peep cake pop bakerella

Next Time I Will:  Practice, practice, practice I would say. I still ate them! :)
