FailWin: Pumpkin Cinnamon Roll Pancakes

Posted under FailWin

[Editors Note: FailWin usually means "This probably isn't going to turn out like it did for the person who put it on Pinterest, but it's still worth trying it out for yourself!"]

What I Did: I LOVE pumpkin, cinnamon rolls and pancakes! Also I was having surgery and this was my choice for my ‘last meal’ before fasting. We followed the directions and when we added the swirls things just went downhill from there. The filling sort of went everywhere and then it was impossible to flip and it broke into a million pieces.

My Result:

Next Time I Will: We should have waited until the pancake was cooked a touch more before adding the filling and then waited even longer to flip it. You want it almost completely cooked before flipping. We did find that a ‘dot’ application worked better than the swirl application. They were amazing and delicious but the first ‘fail’ was too good not to share! Seriously yummy but I doubt we will ever be able to make them as ‘pretty’ as they are pictured.

Fail: Egg Muffins

Posted under Fail

[Editors Note: I admit I've had limited success with these as well. My first batch turned out great and my toddler gobbled them up. Since then I've found that they cook up overdone on the outside and underdone on the inside. Mine also puff up in the oven but shrivel down as soon as I take them out.]

What I Did: This seemed like an easy enough recipe. Eggs, cheese, some veggies in muffin tins. Voila! Egg muffins. However, not so tasty and certainly not attractive. I wouldn’t serve these at a brunch ever. That is unless I tweaked the recipe, oven time, temperature, etc. so in my book it just isn’t up to snuff as is. They puffed up to giant muffin size in the oven at 25 min.. They looked amazing. I was thinking they’d be wonderful. Within seconds of taken them out of the oven they sunk and shriveled. Some became tiny, others an okay size, but all had big air bubbles at the bottom and basically no muffin.

My Result:

Next Time I Will: It really needs to have the temp lowered 25 degrees and watch them like a hawk so they don’t get rubbery. I’m not sure what else to do to make them better.

Fail: Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Ring

Posted under Fail

What I Did: I chose this because I love bacon egg & cheese sandwiches. It looks wicked easy so I figured this would be a perfect breakfast to make all of the time.

I made the eggs, easy. Got the bacon & cheese, easy.
Rolling out the crescent rolls, not so easy. It was almost impossible to line all of the edges around the bottom perfectly lined up so that the insides don’t fall out. I spent about 20 minutes and went through 2 1/2 packs of rolls because I had to keep moving them around & they were breaking.

Finally I got it (or thought I did). I placed the egg, bacon & cheese inside (which barely all fit, it was falling out of the sides)

I cooked it for the exact amount of time the directions said. The cheese mixed with the inside of the rolls and made this gross spit-up looking concoction. It did NOT taste good either. The eggs were extremely dry from baking in the oven, the weird experiment that was created between the cheese & rolls had a weird slimy texture.

My Result:

Next Time I Will: Probably not use crescent rolls. I also would put the cheese in the egg instead of against the bread so I didn’t get that weird texture. I will stick to dunkin donuts sandwiches from now on!
