What I Did: The cake can work, I believe, but the rice crispy ‘wheel’ is not sturdy even with several skewers through it.

My Result:

Next Time I Will: Really freeze the wheel solid.

Fail: Fairies in a Jar

Original Inspiration: http://www.polyvore.com/diy_fairies_in_jar/set?id=44763536

What I Did: I thought the picture from the site looked pretty cool and if it was possible to get mine to look like that, my kids would think I was a hero! Heck, I’d have a fairy making party! I did not change anything from the link.

Blog Post Detailing Your Experience: http://www.thejohansonjourney.com/2012/08/pinterest-fairies.html

My Result:

Next Time I Will: I honestly am not sure if adding another liquid would have helped or a different kind of glitter– perhaps more glow? I threw in 3 glow stick juices per mason jar, so I am not sure how much more you should/could add

Fail: Jellyfish in a Bottle

Posted under Fail

Name: Cammie S.

Original Inspiration: http://bhoomplay.wordpress.com/2011/09/09/diy_jellyfish_eng/

What I Did: I saw this on Pinterest and immediately knew I wanted to try it because I babysit a lot and figured this would be a fun activity to do with the kids. I wanted to try it myself before I did it with the kids to make sure it came it good and we weren’t all disappointed. Good thing I did. I followed the instructions pretty closely, although my bag was not as transparent as hers and my bottle wasn’t as big or as clear. (Perhaps a Smart Water bottle would have been better?) I didn’t think those things mattered and figured it was more important to make sure the head and legs of my jellyfish were correct and I thought they were. As you can see, I was wrong. This looks like a soggy plastic bag in blue water — not exactly the sea life look I was going for.

My Result:

Next Time I Will: I tried cutting some of the legs off and refilling the head with less water to give it some air to rise better all to no avail. Next time I’ll make sure my jellyfish doesn’t have as many legs and try to make them a lot thinner; I think the legs overwhelmed the head and made the whole thing float at the top like a white blob.

Fail: Free Finger Painting

What I Did: I’m a busy work outside the home mom who loves to craft and can’t wait to share that with my toddler. I hit upon a great craft for busy moms with mess-free fingerpainting, provided by The Hippie Housewife. I think my toddler was just too young to “”get”" this craft, and ended up destroying it instead. We had a good laugh, so I’m glad we did it. You can see how uninterested my toddler was here.

My Result:

What Went Wrong: This would be a great project for an older child.  The next person to attempt this craft should use less paint than I did, but otherwise could replicate my steps and successfully execute the project.
