Fail: Homemade Almond Butter

Posted under Fail

Name: Renee

Original Inspiration: http://pinterest.com/pin/187814246932340999/

What I Did: I tried to make almond butter and this is the result. I used sliced almonds instead of whole and only about a cup and a half of them. I also tried to add honey to the mix and oil when it looked like it wasn’t blending properly. I ended up with a tough, dry mess that was oozing all over the place. Nothing incorporated and it looked, as you can tell from the picture like waste in a jar.

My Result:

Next Time I Will:  I think I’ll probably end up eating the result of the fail, I hate the idea of wasting money/food and it’s still edible, just not super appetizing. I think the next time I won’t used sliced almonds and definitely use the full 3-4 cups of whole almonds. I will also wait until it is in a more buttery state before I add honey so that it will fully incorporate. I think the project could work, I’ve seen it on a number of blogs and I refuse to stop trying until I figure it out!

What I Did: I was trying to make a super cute lunch for my new husband, so I went on the adventure that is PB&J “Sushi.” I failed. Miserably. My bread wouldn’t roll up, I found out that my favorite jelly had gone bad (I didn’t use that one, obviously), there were crumbs everywhere…I ended up with PB&J lumps, and did a whole new version of the “walk of shame” into his work, lunchbox in hand.

My Result:

Next Time I Will: I would definitely try the *other* version, where you use tortillas. Or the one with Rice Krispies.

ham-and-egg-muffins

What I Did: Chose these for my husband’s low carb diet so he could freeze them and have them for breakfast. I had the best of intentions…and added a tinge of butter to each cup. After all…butter makes everything better, right?

My Result:

egg muffins low carb pinterest fail

Next Time I Will: I would not use butter and I would spray my cupcake pan with Pam first! Maybe cook them at a lower temp for longer?

Fail: Vegan Corn Dogs

What I Did: My husband wanted to have “healthy” snacks for the football game. Thought I would surprise him and make one of his favorites but in a heart smart version. When this recipe and photo showed up on my internet search I was super excited! Took the task seriously and followed the recipe carefully. The first sign of trouble was getting the batter to stay on the dogs. My husband was impressed that they really tasted pretty good…just a little weird to eat your corn dog with a fork and knife : )

My Result:

What I Did: I chose this project because I am from Wisconsin and LOVE cheese curds. I thought these baked delights would be a healthier substitute. I followed the directions exactly and was very excited while preparing them.

My Result:

Next Time I Will: Next time I would bake them for half as much time and hope it was enough to heat them without a meltdown.

What I Did: I was out of Mac and Cheese for dinner and thought I would try it. I doubled it and used reduced fat cheese and I think that was the problem. I did try a different shape of pasta but I don’t think that was the problem!

Blog Post Detailing The Experience: http://www.missinformationblog.com/2013/01/pinterest-mac-and-cheese-fail.html

My Result:

Next Time I Will: I would try it again but follow the recipe and not use lower fat cheese

Fail: Yogurt Covered Berries

Original Inspiration: http://pinterest.com/pin/134404370099548429/

What I Did: I had an open house for my Mary Kay business today and wanted to make “Pinterest style snacks”

I saw this one and thought it was a great healthy choice but when I went to the store they didn’t have strawberries so I used raspberries.

Right out of the freezer they looked funny but tasted good, a friend was a good sport and snacked on them with me. They tasted really good! But after about an hour the frozen yogurt melted into a gooey nasty looking mess. No more of that!!

Next time the guests get a store-bought snack tray!

My Result:

Next Time I Will: I have no idea. Maybe different yogurt?

Fail: Cheesy Enchilada Stack

Posted under Fail

Name: Julie

My Blog: http://afaintshadow.blogspot.com

Original Inspiration: http://pinterest.com/pin/276619602083857202/

What I Did: This is really a delicious recipe. It just shouldn’t be placed on a cookie sheet to bake. There is no way it can hold together in a neat little stack. Lots of cheese, enchilada sauce, a can of refried beans, etc.

Blog Post Detailing The Experience: http://afaintshadow.blogspot.com/2012/10/pinterest-fail-or-win.html

My Result:

Next Time I Will: It just needs to be placed in a pan with sides to hold it all together.
