What I Did: I saw this on Pinterest and thought it looked awesome. I love experimenting with my nails, and this seemed easy enough. I did exactly what the post said. Twice. Elinimated the toothpick stir on the third try because the polish immediately wrapped around the toothpick as soon as it entered the water.

My Result:

Next Time I Will: I have no idea. Three attempts failed. I am not sure I can do anything differently and experience the result I want!

Fail: Bowtie Nails

Posted under Fail

Name: Kelsay

Original Inspiration: http://www.joybx.com/entry/18221.html

What I Did: So I’m getting married this weekend and like pretty much every bride I’ve found a lot of inspiration from Pinterest, including these adorable little bow tie nails. I thought the little bow tie would be perfect as an accent, because my hub2b is wearing a tail coat and bow tie. This is not my own personal fail, which makes it more painful. I actually paid someone $40 for a manicure and this, I don’t know what it is. I had the photo for reference and the woman could just not figure it out. I tried to voice my concern several times but there was an obvious language barrier. Conveniently all the other technicians were out of the salon during my visit, so there was not even someone else to help her. I paid what she was owed, and then proceeded to laugh/cry/laugh and stopped at the next salon I passed and hoped they could fix my disaster.

My Result:

Next Time I Will: Next time I will choose a salon that has more than one tech on staff or just get a friend to do it for me.

Fail: Fading Glitter Polish

Posted under Fail

I present to you the project that inspired Pinterest Fail for me! I knew I couldn’t be the only person investing time and money into things that look pretty or delicious on Pinterest, but somehow just don’t turn out right.

What I Did: I generally have the skills of a 7-year-old girl when painting my nails, but this effect seemed easy enough to achieve. I painted my nails gray first, two coats, and once that had dried I went to work with the sparkles. My thumb turned out okay, with a tiny bit of fading going down, but when I did my pointer finger the sparkles stopped short and looked like a strange attempt at a sparkly french tip. I countered this by dragging sparkles all the way down to the bottom.  Same thing with my middle and pinky finger, although I gave the faded look another try on my ring finger as well. I looked down at the finished product and wished I had a pre-teen girl to blame for my mess!

My Result:

What Went Wrong: The glitter didn’t fade like the inspirations picture. And I think the gray color I bought was too dark, so instead of getting something light and sparkly, I ended up with something dark and clunky. If you’re going to try this I recommend a nice light gray and a glitter polish with really tiny glitter chunks as I think the bigger sparkles in mine contributed to the sad result.
