FailWin: Pumpkin Cinnamon Roll Pancakes

[Editors Note: FailWin usually means "This probably isn't going to turn out like it did for the person who put it on Pinterest, but it's still worth trying it out for yourself!"]

What I Did: I LOVE pumpkin, cinnamon rolls and pancakes! Also I was having surgery and this was my choice for my ‘last meal’ before fasting. We followed the directions and when we added the swirls things just went downhill from there. The filling sort of went everywhere and then it was impossible to flip and it broke into a million pieces.

My Result:

Next Time I Will: We should have waited until the pancake was cooked a touch more before adding the filling and then waited even longer to flip it. You want it almost completely cooked before flipping. We did find that a ‘dot’ application worked better than the swirl application. They were amazing and delicious but the first ‘fail’ was too good not to share! Seriously yummy but I doubt we will ever be able to make them as ‘pretty’ as they are pictured.

Fail: Pumpkin Baby

Posted under Fail

[Editors Note: Her tip to bring the pumpkin inside so it warms up is what Pinterest Fail is all about! I think this photo idea could possibly work, but not in cold climates where the baby is met with a freezing gourd.]

What I Did: Who among us with a fancy camera hasn’t seen some beautiful pic of a kid in some “propped” or “posed” photo on the internet and thought, “I’m going to do that with my kid! What a cool idea!”

Such is the story of me and my Nikon and my 5 month old daughter, Josephine, who is just getting kinda good at sitting up and who I thought would be ADORBSY sitting in a great big ole’ orange gourd this fall.

Blog Post Detailing The Experience: http://secretmommy.blogspot.com/2012/11/yeah-i-stuffed-my-baby-in-pumpkin.html

My Result:

Next Time I Will: Should I attempt this again (will probably need another baby since stuffing Jo back into a pumpkin isn’t going to happen anytime soon…) I would definitely take the pic indoors and with a pumpkin that has also been sitting indoors. The warm temps could improve the chances of a positive outcome.

Fail: Chevron Painted Pumpkins

What I Did: I found these great chevron-painted pumpkins and they seemed easy enough… tape, paint, peel, and you have Chevron Pumpkins! I already had a few different paints in gray and white, as well as the cheapo-brushes, and bought two pumpkins.

I started making chevron tape chain to go around the pumpkins. Did not expect that taping 2 inch pieces of tape back and forth would consume an entire Sunday afternoon, but it did.
Then I applied the tape to the pumpkin. It takes some maneuvering to get it on there without a lot of overlap, which also took FOREVER!

When I have just TWO strips of chevron tape around 1 pumpkin, I’m realizing carving the things would’ve been about done by now.

After HOURS of working on the taping, I was finally ready to paint. After two coats, it was looking pretty freaking sweet, and I was very proud of myself! But I was also starving, so I had to take a break. I went back out to paint a second coat on the bigger of the pumpkins and peel the tape off of the smaller one. Wa hoo!! My hours of work were going to pay off!! Notsomuch. The paint completely peeled off with the tape!!! Annnnnnnd, there went 4 hours of work, down the tubes. Wow. I’ve had other projects not really come out as planned… but never have I had literally hours of work, undone in 2 seconds flat.

I tried other methods to peel the tape off, thinking that would help. I peeled fast, I peeled slow. I peeled off of the dry pumpkin, and then tried peeling off of the still-wet one. Nada. The paint came off like, well, like latex paint, because that’s what it was. Ugh.. Next time… I’ll just spray paint and be done with it.

After scraping away the majority of the paint I got most of it, but they’re still looking pretty sad, with flecks of white paint all over them like bird poop.

Blog Post Detailing The Experience: http://eggsandpethair.blogspot.com/2012/10/ive-heard-stories-of-pinterest-fails.html

My Result:

Next Time I Will: I guess I used the wrong paint. Next time, I’ll use craft paint, or spray paint. If I can get all the bird-poop white paint splotches scraped off with my fingernails, the pumpkins can be salvaged. Ya know, in my spare time..

Fail: Naked Baby in Pumpkin

What I Did: I saw a picture similar to this pin (it’s a better one, but can’t find original source, so didn’t want to use it). I thought, “I can do this! My son will look adorable in a pumpkin!” I carved the pumpkin, lined it with pillows, and plunked my son inside. He was NOT happy. Total Pinterest FAIL.

Fail: Pumpkin Cheesecake Bread

I’ve always wanted to make the pumpkin cream cheese bread on Pinterest. It looked so delicious, and it didn’t look too hard to make. But I guess I put too much batter in the bread tin…

My Result:

Next Time I Will: I don’t think there will be a next time…. but if I had to do it again, i’d only put like half as much batter in the tin :P
